Set-up a Dot Matrix Printer

Delivery Notes can be printed on a Dot Matrix printer using NCR paper for customer copy and ability to record signature.

These types of printer used an old type of connection called a Parallel port for communication with a PC and this port would be presented by the operating system to software such as Paragon as LPT1: From Windows 7 on wards it has been harder to use this printer port and it is now impossible to obtain a PC with this type of port as standard, and additional card needs to be installed.

More recently these printers are available with USB ports on them, but this means that a Windows Printer driver has to be used print documents. From version 2.72 onwards Paragon supports the use of the printer driver, but it can still be awkward to set up. Here are the screen shots from a working configuration.

Printer

We recommend the Epson FX 890 printer.

Page Length

It is very important to configure the printer to know the length of the paper being used, the printer typically will come with a factory setting of 12 inches, but UK fan fold tractor paper is usually 11 inches long.

(Somewhere I have the notes on how to set this)

In Paragon the number of lines should be set to 66 when the Printer Driver is in use. When setting up multiple workstations to print to the same printer it is important to name the printer the same on each Workstation as you configure which Printer to send just the Delivery Notes. This allows the default printer to continue to be used for all other printout types which are A4.
